Canteens sustainably: discounted offer before closing time
Masaryk University canteens are coming up with a new initiative to combat food waste. Every day before the end of the opening hours, MU students will be able to purchase selected meals at a discounted price.
If you come to the cafeteria in the last 20 minutes of opening hours, you will get a 20-percent discount on soups and lunch menus. With this new measure, Masaryk University canteens are responding to suggestions from the last MU Catering Board meeting.
All students will receive the discounted price for soups and meals that are always currently left to be issued from the daily lunch menu. The promotion does not apply to desserts, salads and fruit bowls. “We want to motivate students and faculty members to work together to help us reduce bio-waste and still save money. Our goal is to reduce food waste and make more efficient use of prepared food at the end of the day,” says Head of Canteen Management Tomáš Kala.
The offer is valid without restrictions in all six MU canteens and is automatically included in the price of meals. Therefore, before the end of opening hours, students and employees will see the daily meal offer with already discounted prices on their screens.
Ordering meals via the online application WebKredit or the mobile application MobilKredit remains a priority for MU canteens in the area of sustainable catering and waste-free cooking. Both apps provide students with selected meals for each day, the ability to cancel orders, check account balances or view the next day´s menu.
