New members of eight dormitory councils elected
All dormitory councils of dormitories operated by MU’s Accommodation and Catering Services saw their student members elected in the autumn elections, save for one exception; including both blocks of the Komárov dormitory which did not have a regular council for years.
Announced by ACS director in early October, the elections were held at all dormitories including the recently reopened Kounicova dormitory.
The only exception this year was the Mánesova dormitory with no candidate submitting their application even after an extraordinary second round. “For years there had been no interest in the council membership at Bří. Žůrků and Sladkého dormitories in Komárov. This time the three-member council was finally elected. Applicants were ultimately found at Tvrdého as well, so it looks like the council will be official. All three blocks at Vinařská, along with Kounicova, Veveří, Klácelova and náměstí Míru will also have their councils,” says Head of Residence Management Renata Pavlicová, adding that the management of ACS has begun regular meetings with the new members right away.
The membership in the dormitory council carries a number of perks; members can actively participate in the management of the dormitory and receive priority information on the operations. They can also submit their own ideas and recommendations for the improvement of comfort. They are also entitled to a guaranteed bed throughout the academic year outside the regular list of applicants.
