Accommodation prices only to be adjusted for inflation in 2026

In spite of increasing costs, Masaryk University is not planning to increase the accommodation prices as such. The rent in 2026 will only reflect the inflation rate according to the data published by the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO)The CZSO is expected to announce the inflation rate in the second half of January 2026. The new price list, with the inflation clause applied, shall take effect on 1 February 2026.

Canteens to upgrade their offer for students

Soups offered separately from the “student menu” for CZK 85 with the price unchanged as well as improved selection of soups during the week, including separate soups. These are the changes MU canteens will be coming with in the spring semester of 2026.

MU dormitories: greater comfort for students and further planned renovations

Façade repairs, building insulation, window replacement, or the repair of riser pipes at the Vinařská dormitories, together with the completion of the two-year modernization of the Kounicova dormitories. These are the main investments of the past year by the Accommodation and Catering Services, which continuously takes care of the maintenance of all nine of its dormitory complexes.

Canteens sustainably: discounted offer before closing time

Masaryk University canteens are coming up with a new initiative to combat food waste. Every day in the last 20 minutes of the opening hours, MU students will be able to purchase selected meals at a discounted price. With this new measure, Masaryk University canteens are responding to suggestions from the last MU Catering Board meeting. All students will receive the discounted price for soups and meals that are always currently left to be issued from the daily lunch menu. The promotion does not apply to desserts, salads and fruit bowls.

Results are in: try dishes according to students’ recipes

Indian red lentil dhal with coconut milk and basmati rice; chickpea curry goulash with baked vegetables and steamed rice; or vegan saffron risotto with zucchini: these are the three “winners” of the student contest that will soon find their way to MU canteens.

Bed reservations: all categories of students are considered

Guaranteed beds for current residents, beds allocated for students returning from Erasmus programmes, foreign students and ultimately first-year students: this is the order of reservations to be applied for the reservations of beds for the 2026/2027 academic year, as approved on 27 November by MU’s Accommodation Board.

New members of eight dormitory councils elected

All dormitory councils of dormitories operated by MU’s Accommodation and Catering Services saw their student members elected in the autumn elections, save for one exception; including both blocks of the Komárov dormitory which did not have a regular council for years. The only exception this year was the Mánesova dormitory with no candidate submitting their application even after an extraordinary second round.
