Future residents of the Mánesova dormitories can look forward to improved quality of living thanks to interior renovations which started in May at the cost of approximately CZK 26 million.

“We expect the works to be finished in September and students should be allowed to move in before the start of the semester – which means September 16th at the latest. They can look forward to new flooring, painted walls and furniture. The entire dormitory will be basically brand new, with the exception of kitchenettes,” says ACS director Kamil Kulíšek.

If the works are finished earlier than planned, Kulíšek added, students will be given the opportunity to move in earlier (and if so, they will be notified by e-mail).

In addition to the summertime renovation of the Mánesova dormitory, works are scheduled to commence on the much more complex renovation of the Kounicova dormitories in October. Students will move in after reopening for the 2025/26 academic year.

This project will cost approximately CZK 260 million. Masaryk University was granted a subsidy for the first stage from the Ministry of Education, amounting to CZK 119 million. MU will apply for another subsidy for the second stage of the renovations, this time from EU structural funds. Located within walking distance from the Faculty of Law, the high-rise will undergo major renovation and contribute to MU’s strategic steps in improving the living standards of its students.

The construction works will address, among other things, problems with the cracking of partition walls in rooms and utility pipes will be replaced as well. As a result all rooms will have en-suites. The current capacity of 570 beds in 289 rooms will remain unchanged after the reopening.

Students staying at this dormitory who were interested in MU-provided accommodation already have beds booked at other dormitories.
