Summertime dormitories: Bří. Žůrků and Mánesova
Two dormitories – Bří. Žůrků in Komárov and Mánesova in Královo Pole – will remain open to ensure the 2025 summertime operations for MU students.
The Accommodation and Catering Services (ACS) aims to improve the comfort of its residents, and will continue to do so in the final weeks of the academic year and during the summer. Apart from regular summertime maintenance several scheduled reconstruction projects have started.
Currently in progress at the Vinařská dormitory is window replacement combined with façade repair and insulation. “Last year and two years ago we repaired the northern part of the building in two stages, now it is the southern part’s turn. Last week we finished window replacement, which is now followed by the finishing touches. All renovations are expected to result in significant energy efficiency improvements,” says ACS’s Head of Division of Technical and Information Technologies Petra Jandásková.
Building A1 at Vinařská will see in summer the commencement of the reconstruction of the ascending piping technology for CZK 20 million. “The renovation covers the entire student block; and the same renovation is planned for the A3 building next year,” Jandásková explained, adding that the total investment shall amount to CZK 40 million.
Nearing completion is the long-term large-scale renovation of the Kounicova dormitory which, once finished, will add almost 600 beds to the portfolio. “The installation of an evacuation elevator has started, to be followed by the installation of a passenger elevator. Tiling in rooms is finished, and wall painting will be finished soon as well,” says Marcela Dvořáková from the Infrastructure Development Office.
MU has long planned a large new accommodation complex in the Bohunice campus. “It should include two or three new buildings for 1,000 residents, along with workout areas and greenery right next to the area along the Svratka River, for example, in the form of cycle paths. New buildings are also planned in the Vinařská facility,” says MU Bursar David Póč.

The first round of reservations of dormitories for the 2025/2026 academic year is well underway for the current residents. From the first day (which was 5 May) a total of 1,654 students have submitted their applications.
