Canteens sustainably: discounted offer before closing time

Masaryk University canteens are coming up with a new initiative to combat food waste. Every day before the end of the opening hours, MU students will be able to purchase selected meals at a discounted price.

Students can now spend their free time in the canteen at Poříčí

Since the new academic year, the canteen at the Faculty of Education has been offering students the opportunity to make new use of the space on the ground floor and on the first floor. Following the reconstruction during summer which included the construction of a glass wall the canteen is now fully accessible to students after opening hours.

Last 20 Minutes = 20% Discount! MUNI Canteens Introduce New Anti-Food-Waste Measure

Starting August 25, 2025, Masaryk University canteens will offer a 20% discount on selected meals during the last 20 minutes of daily service. The goal is to reduce food waste and minimize biowaste. The discount applies to soups and selected lunch dishes still available for serving.

As the first university in the Czech Republic, we use exclusively paper cups.

We exclusively use 100% recyclable paper cups for serving drinks, which should be properly disposed of in blue paper recycling bins. We also encourage the use of personal, reusable cups or glasses.

As part of our effort to minimize environmental impact, receipts are printed only upon prior request. In compliance with applicable legislation, proof of purchase for goods or services is also available electronically in your dining account (MobilKredit, WebKredit). Passion is a must in cooking, says MU canteens’ chef Petr Klimeš

Petr Klimeš has seen everything. Having tried all cuisines the world has to offer; having learned the ropes in the kitchens of famous chefs in Germany and France; and having tried the snake, zebra or bison, he has joined four years ago the team at the Accommodation and Catering Services (ACS) as the coordinator of catering. He can rely on his 45 years of experience which includes two famous hotels in Brno (International and Voroněž).

These were the outcomes of a survey regarding the services provided by the canteens of Masaryk University organised by the Students’ Chamber of the Academic Senate (SKAS) in November.

Masaryk University has offered an increased capacity of 4,034 beds and more accommodation options for first-year students for this new academic year. Any applicant who applied for accommodation at  MU dormitories this year and waited ultimately got their spot.

#MUNIsaves: Nine Energy Savings on Campus

For the new academic year, the management of the Accommodation and Catering Services (ACS) has prepared the Nine Energy Savings campaign for students staying in dormitories, focused on saving electricity, water and heat. This is in response to a similar #MUNIsaves campaign launched by Masaryk University in October 2022.

New pipes and windows: Vinařská dormitory sees a lot of action
